Saturday, December 6, 10:00 AM-5:00 PM: Downtown Knoxville’s most affordable holiday shopping event with unique gifts and live performances by artists who are all members of the Arts & Culture Alliance! FREE admission and parking! The Extravaganza takes place at both the Emporium Center (100 S. Gay Street, corner of Gay/Jackson) and Studio M (108 S. Gay Street). Following the Santa Claus Parade, enjoy a special Block Party at the 100 Block of Gay Street from 8:00-10:00 PM. The 100 Block will be closed to traffic to host the party which will feature a visit from Santa Claus, marshmallow roasting, live entertainment and a variety of vendors.

Saturday, Dec. 6: The Knack Saturdays – Santa’s Workshop, Sat., Dec. 6,10am - 2pm, Michael's, 9622 Kingston Pike, Knoxville 37922. Kids can make three great gifts for friends and loved ones — and wrap them too!

December 6, 12 - 3 p.m.:
25th Annual Holiday Craft Party!Ijams Nature Center, 2915 Island Home Ave, Knoxville 37920. We'll make recycled crafts like wrapping paper, gift tags, ornaments,  candles, pine cone suet feeders, garland and wreath making. There will be snacks for everyone and a wreath-making workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Free to members, $2 for non-members, plus $5 if you would like to make a wreath. Friday and Saturday, noon-8pm, from Thanksgiving to Christmas: 2nd Annual Market Square Holiday Market - , visit some of the MSFM's most loyal craft vendors and some new ones. From 4-8pm each market, roast marshmallows and make s'mores over an open fire. Buy local this holiday season and support your community.

Holiday Express at the UT Gardens:  Fri 5pm - 9pm, Sat 1pm - 9pm, Sun 1pm - 6pm , a 4,000-square-foot garden railway display nestled in the beauty of the fall and winter UT Gardens. Featuring garden-scale model trains running through a perfectly proportioned miniature landscape, complete with rivers and waterfalls and decorated for the holiday season. Adults and children alike can relax around the fire pit while enjoying a cup of hot cocoa., Admission is $5, children 4 and under are free. 2009-2010 School Year Calendar Approved

The Knox County Board of Education adopted calendars for the 2009-2010 and 2010-11 school years at its meeting November 19th. The calendars inlcude a later starting date for students and a two-day Fall break. In addition, Thanksgiving holidays now include the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
